Under the direction of the DON is responsible for ensuring follow-up calls are completed on all patients presenting to the emergency department for care. Maintains all change in treatment logs and assists with QAPI activities as directed. Must be willing to cross train and assist admission clerks and ER department as needed. Provides direct and indirect patient assistance in the ER setting. Under direction of the Laboratory Manager and technical direction of the Core Lab Supervisor, the Specimen Processor is responsible for independently obtaining and processing specimens and contributing to the general operation of the laboratory. The Specimen Processor   must demonstrate skills in obtaining specimens from all age groups serviced utilizing a variety of blood collection devices and safety devices.  He/she must also demonstrate good clerical skills, computer skills in data entry and communication skills with patients, coworkers, and other departments.  The Specimen Processor may also be required to collect specimens from patients in local nursing homes. This position is also responsible for specimen processing of samples sent to approved reference labs and other lab departments.
