Ozarks Community Hospital
Description of Service
The Ozarks Community Hospital Sleep Lab offers a full range of diagnostic testing, including sleep studies (polysomnograms or PSGs), Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT), and Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing (MWT).
Sleep studies are a painless and non-invasive procedure. This means that there are no needles involved and the testing only includes sensors and equipment that go on the surface of the skin. These electrodes are used to help the physician properly identify and treat a number of sleep disorders. The electrodes on your skin record EEG (brain waves), EKG (sometimes called ECG), eye movements, muscle activity, oxygen levels, breathing, and snoring. Sensors are attached to the patient’s head, chest, on either side of the eyes and under the chin.
Sleep studies are performed in private bedrooms and we strive to help you feel comfortable and protect your privacy. The testing is done with a sleep technologist in attendance throughout the night for assistance. The test is safe and painless. Sleep testing results will be reviewed by your sleep specialist and recommendations for treatment will then be made.
When we schedule a patient for sleep testing, it is our policy to make sure the patient understands the reason for the sleep study, feels comfortable to ask us questions, and has pertinent information relating to sleep testing.
