Springfield, MO – Community members are invited to attend a free hepatitis education event on Thursday, May 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ozarks Community Hospital.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about all types of hepatitis while receiving a risk factor assessment and optional free hepatitis C testing, if risk factors are met. Attendees will also learn more about treatment options available.
“This is something that we’ve had in the works for a while; but given recent events it’s even more relevant,” says Andrea Harp, communications manager. “We want to educate the community on all types of hepatitis, encourage testing, and stop the cycle of infection within the southwest Missouri area.”
AIDS Projects of the Ozarks will be available on-site to administer rapid hepatitis C tests for those who meet risk factors. Discounted confirmatory and genotype tests will be made available by Quest Diagnostics.
OCH is also collaborating with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, Walgreens, BriovaRx Specialty Pharmacy, HPC Specialty Pharmacy, Grove Pharmacy, Dr. Jackie Beene and Beverly Gann, WHNP for the event.
Additional health topic booths will be available to attendees, and will include other communicable disease education, information from local organizations assisting the at-risk population, and resources for those affected by hepatitis. Food will be provided.
